THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR SEASON ONE AND TWO!
The relationship between Michael and Sara began as a doctor/patient one. Michael had put Sara in his escape plans from the beginning, and as someone who doesn't have diabetes but was making frequent visits to the doctor for insulin shots he was trying to make "good time" with the lovely doctor. Although, what Michael didn't put into his plan from the beginning was that he would fall for Sara during his time. The relationship develops into something deeper and when escape day is very close Michael knows that the only way he will be able to escape is with help from Sara. He asks Sara to leave the door open to the medical ward, and after a long thought process, Sara leaves it open. She stumbles back home and relapses with a needle in her arm and death nearing.

Sara recovers from her overdose and Sara becomes a person on the run after the authorities find out she was one of the main reasons the convicts escaped. She meets up with Michael and after some shared moments and shocking ones the season ends with them apart and Sara acquitted of all charges. What comes next for the two is still a mystery.
